In Our Hands explores the complex and familiar dynamics of control, survival, privilege, and vulnerability within the human-animal relationship. With over two decades of experience raising and training therapy dogs, Goodwin brings a lived sensitivity to interspecies relationships. Yet this intimacy also reveals an ethical tension she continues to navigate—between cultural norms and human needs and desires, and the welfare of the animals entrusted to our care. The work seeks not to resolve this conflict, but to hold it in view.
